Lets start off with Race Day Saturday!
If you read the last blog you know that Marie and I signed up to do the Riverside V 5 miler in Shreveport, Louisiana.this past Saturday night. We both wanted to get in more races before our big race in December, and...there was prize money (wooo!)
My family was wonderful and decided to come watch me! And also Robbie (my brother) could run the 5k. And our friend Laurie (who runs on the SFA team) was so sweet and came with us to watch!
When we arrived in Shreveport we first headed to the check in area (we were eager beavers and were the first people there!)
and Rob and I with bib numbers
After sitting around and waiting for about an hour (we have learned well from coach Snelling to be prompt) It was time to depart on the shuttle buses that would take us to the starting line.
While being driven there, we were informed the race would be a straight shot back to the check in area and would be on a major road that was closed down specifically for the race.
Marie and I did our two mile warm-up (and scoped out the competition, to see who we thought looked legit)
Then the race was off!! Marie and I followed out a lead pack of ULM alum guys (who we met and they knew Adam and some guys from the SFA team!) After 5 miles of racing I ended up being the 1st woman and Marie was 2nd with times of 29:04 and 29:47
We both averaged sub 6 min. miles and were very happy with our race, but the cherry on top (very very big cherry) was I won $250 and Marie won $150, not a bad day if you ask either of us ;)
Us after the race with Laurie
Robbie Won his 5K!! He blew away the competition and was sooo far in the lead!
Afterwards they had a spaghetti dinner for everyone, and a live band while handing out all of the rewards
Marie and I both won plates!
The guy who was handing out awards was dressed as Jackie Moon from the movie Semi- Pro and he looked JUST like Will Ferrel. We HAD to get a picture with him!
We then had a long drive back to good 'ol Nac, were we crashed and woke up in a few hours to run 8 more miles ;)
Oh! I couldn't forget about this! When walking into our apartment i stumbled upon this little treat waiting for me...
My roomie, Steph, was soo sweet and made me a congratulations out of Jenga blocks!! Perfect end to the night :)
As far as running goes these past two days:
- On Sunday we had a recovery 8 miles
- Today we had our long run (switched with Sunday) 15 miles around town
Lastly, I did a very "big girl" thing today. On December the 10th Team Green will be racing at the Cross Country National Team Championships in Seattle, so today I purchased my plane ticket! (I know, I know may not seem like that big of a deal, but its a plane ticket! Don't judge!)
